Bee Tox Wax:

Tools for the health of honey bees
frnlen

The Department of Epidemiology and Risk Analysis Applied to Veterinary Sciences of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the University of Liège carries out research on the problems of honey bees health and mortality with the aim of helping beekeepers to identify and control the risk factors that have an impact on colony mortality.

The quality of the wax, its adulteration and the chemical contaminants that accumulate in it over time are factors to consider.

The Bee Tox Wax tool is used to calculate the toxicity risk of waxes that have been subjected to a pesticide analysis. This tool as well as the associated didactic film on wax movements in the hive were created with the support of the Walloon Public Service.

Beekeeping practice can have a positive and a negative influence on bee mortality.

The Bee Best Check tool is used to evaluate the effect on bee colony mortality of current beekeeping practices and of a new practices that the beekeeper plans to implement. This tool has been designed with the support of the Belgian Federal Public Service Health, Food Chain Safety and Environment and in collaboration with UGent.

The use of the tools is free of charge and the data generated is anonymous. The anonymous data generated will only be used for scientific research purposes.
